What Does the Plan Cover?

USAA Device Protection may cover the cost of repairing or replacing an eligible Covered Device when it experiences a covered:

Accidental Damage

Accidental Damage includes incidents such as:

  • Cracked screens
  • Drops
  • Liquid spills
  • Similar accidental events associated with normal handling and use of the device

Malfunction

A Malfunction is a failure of the Covered Device to operate normally due to an eligible operational or structural failure, including certain defects in materials or workmanship.

Coverage is always subject to the customer's specific plan terms and eligibility.

Common Exclusions

The plan does not cover certain losses or damage, including:

  • Lost devices
  • Stolen devices
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Cosmetic damage that does not affect device functionality
  • Intentional damage, abuse or reckless use
  • Accessories or peripheral equipment
  • Preventative maintenance
  • Damage covered under a manufacturer's, distributor's or seller's warranty
  • Pre-existing conditions when applicable
  • Devices that have been materially misrepresented
  • Certain damage caused by improper operation, modification or unauthorized repair
  • Devices purchased for resale or professional/commercial use
  • Damage occurring while the device is in storage or transit, except as provided under the plan
Cosmetic Damage

Cosmetic damage includes superficial scratches, scrapes, chips, abrasions and similar damage that does not affect the functionality of the device.

Cosmetic damage alone is not covered.

A cracked screen is not considered cosmetic damage under the plan definition.

Do not determine eligibility based only on the customer's description of the damage.
