Why Was My Claim Rejected?
Common requirements that can affect whether an incident qualifies for coverage.
Every claim is reviewed according to the terms, conditions, eligibility requirements, limits, and exclusions of your USAA Device Protection plan.
There are several reasons an incident may not qualify for coverage.
The Incident Occurred During the Waiting PeriodA 30-day waiting period applies when you first purchase your plan.
Incidents that occur during the waiting period are not eligible for coverage.
The Incident Was Reported More Than 30 Days LaterCovered accidental damage or a malfunction must be reported within 30 days of the date it occurred.
The 30-day claim reporting requirement is separate from the initial 30-day waiting period.
The Device Did Not Meet the Eligibility RequirementsThe smartphone involved in the incident must meet the eligibility requirements of your household plan.
Documentation may be requested to verify that the device was eligible for coverage at the time of the incident.
The Type of Damage Is Not CoveredCertain losses and types of damage are excluded from coverage.
Examples may include:
- Lost or stolen devices
- Cosmetic damage that does not affect functionality
- Normal wear and tear
- Intentional damage, abuse, or reckless use
- Damage or failures covered by another applicable warranty
- Other exclusions listed in your plan terms
Your plan allows up to two (2) claims per 12-month period.
Once the maximum number of claims has been reached, additional claims are not available during that period.
Requested Documentation Was Not ProvidedAdditional documentation may be required to verify your device, coverage, or the circumstances of your claim.
If requested information is not provided within the required timeframe, your claim may not be eligible for approval.
Every Claim Is Reviewed IndividuallyA type of damage being generally covered does not automatically mean every incident involving that type of damage will qualify.
Your claim must meet all applicable requirements of your USAA Device Protection plan.
